Travelling to New York
New York City, arguably the world’s most vibrant and exciting metropolis, stretches across five boroughs. Each one of them has its own identity. In 1898 Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens and Staten Island were consolidated in what we refer to as New York City today.
The massive borough of Brooklyn stretches from festive Coney Island to elegant Brooklyn Heights. It can boast of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, the gorgeous bridge that bears the borough’s name, the Brooklyn Museum, and an ever-growing restaurant scene.
Harlem, the national epicenter of African-American culture, is known for its jazz clubs and Southern restaurants. Once home to massive factories, artists moved to Tribeca and Soho and transformed the area into a bustling urban mecca. Galleries, designer shops, sophisticated restaurants and trendy bars followed soon after. Asian restaurants, grocery stores and trinket shops line the ever-crowded streets of Chinatown. Dim Sum and other favorites attract diners on practically every corner, especially on famous Mott Street. Frank Sinatra, Italian restaurants and kitsch draw tourists to the lively neighborhood of Little Italy surrounding Mulberry Street. The Feast of San Gennaro still welcomes its throngs, but the neighborhood is fast becoming surrounded by nearby Chinatown.
From Flushing to Astoria, Queens is experiencing a quiet renaissance, as refugees from Manhattan’s high rents continue to discover what this working-class borough offers its residents. Inexpensive ethnic restaurants can be found throughout the borough. Queens is also home to the Museum of the Moving Image and Flushing Meadows Corona Park. The Bronx boasts the Yankees, one of the nation’s finest zoos, and an extraordinary Botanical Garden.
As the name implies, Midtown is smack in the middle of everything. Publishing houses, financial firms, import/export companies and fashion houses–all do business here. Trump Tower entices shoppers, along with all those glorious stores along Fifth Avenue. Ice skaters enjoy themselves at Rockefeller Center and the majestic St. Patrick’s Cathedral offers serenity and spirituality.

How is the weather in New York?
New York is attractive in every season. Autumns are comfortable and similar to spring in temperature. However, the weather is notably unpredictable and sometimes requires several layers of clothing in late fall and in the early spring months (e.g., November, March, April) as temperatures fluctuate rapidly at these times of year. The climate is affected by its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. Winters are usually cold. Temperatures below 0° F (-18° C) occur rarely. The streets are clear of snow a greater portion of the season. Springs are mild, averaging in the 50s° F (10 to 15° C) in late March to the lower 80s° F (26-28° C) in early June. Summers in New York are hot and humid, with temperatures commonly exceeding 90° F (32° C), although high temperatures above 100° F (38° C) are about as rare as subzero (F) lows in winter.
